How to create an X header

Design an X header image that still feels balanced once the profile photo and bio area sit on top of it.

An X header has to stay balanced even after the profile photo and text stack overlap part of the image. That means layout discipline matters more than decorative detail.

Step 1: Choose one focal message

Good header directions usually fall into one lane:

  • personal brand statement
  • company positioning
  • product identity
  • visual atmosphere without much text

Do not turn the header into a full ad.

Step 2: Use the correct wide canvas

Open X Header Maker so the composition is built for a header ratio instead of being cropped down later.

Step 3: Protect the overlap zones

Keep small text and essential logos away from the lower-left area where profile elements commonly sit. If the design depends on that zone staying clear, it is fragile.

Step 4: Use fewer words than you think

Header copy should read in one glance. A short phrase with strong spacing is more durable than three lines of thin text.

Step 5: Make the background earn its place

Busy textures can make the header feel rich, but they also make overlays harder to read. If the message gets weaker as the background gets more complex, simplify the background.

Step 6: Review on a narrow crop

Even if you design on a wide monitor, shrink the preview mentally: does the header still feel balanced when only the center area gets attention? If not, pull important elements inward.

Better workflow

If the header is part of a broader personal-brand kit, create the core visual language once, then adapt it across LinkedIn Banner Maker and Cover Photo Maker so your profiles look related without being identical.
